(Formerly Adult Special Education)

ASED 0021
Career Awareness

This year-long course comprises Kwantlen's Career Awareness Program. The purpose of the program is to increase the number and variety of vocational options for adults with special needs. It allows students to explore a variety of vocational areas. The program combines vocationally oriented classroom instruction with work experience.

Prerequisites: Permission of instructor, based on structured screening process.

Job Preparation

This year-long course comprises Kwantlen's Job Preparation Program. This program is designed to provide vocational opportunities for adults with special needs. The majority of the student's time is spent in supervised work experiences. Obtaining employment is the goal of the course.

Prerequisites: Permission of instructor, based on structured screening process.

ASED 0041 cr-32
VST: Childcare Aide Option

This course offers career development and academic support to adults accepted into select courses in Kwantlen's Family Daycare program. This course, together with those select courses, is designed to prepare the graduate for employment in child minding, out of school care, and in a licensed childcare facility under the supervision of a qualified early childhood educator. The graduate will also be qualified to assume the position of "responsible adult" as defined in the Child Care Facility Act.

Prerequisites: Applicants must have previous experience in a child care setting, must provide documentation and references, and must participate in a screening process.
Corequisites: Enrolment in the core courses of the Family Daycare Program.

VST: Clerical Assistant Program

This course offers career development and academic support to adults accepted into select courses within Kwantlen's Office Administration Program. This course, together with those select courses, is designed to prepare the graduate for employment as an assistant in an office.

Corequisites: ABTY 1181 and ABTY 1191

ASED 1210
VST (Richmond): Janitorial Assistant

This program is a modified Building Service Worker program for adults with special needs. It provides students with the basic skills and knowledge required for a janitorial assistant position.

Prerequisites: Successful completion of the ASED screening process

ASED 1215
VST (Richmond): Food Service Assistant

This program is a modified Food Service Worker program for adults with special needs. It provides students with the basic skills and knowledge required for a food service assistant position.

Prerequisites: Successful completion of the ASED screening process

ASED 1220
VST: Automotive Assistant Program

This program is a modified automotive program for adults with special needs. It provides students with the basic skills and knowledge required for an automotive assistant position.

Prerequisites: Successful completion of ASED 1205 (Modified Trades Common Core)

ASED 1240
VST: Light Warehousing Assistant

This program is a modified Light Warehousing program for adults with special needs. It provides students with the basic skills and knowledge required for a Light Warehousing assistant position.

Prerequisites: Successful completion of the ASED screening process
Corequisites: Successful completion of ASED 1205 (Modified TRAC Course).
