Introductory Microcomputer Applications

This course provides an introduction to computer hardware and software concepts, and the Internet, as well as detailed instruction in the use of microcomputer operating systems, spreadsheet software, presentation software and word processing software. Students will apply concepts to develop solutions of business problems. The current software in use is Microsoft Windows 95® and Microsoft Office®.

Computers and Information Processing

This course will present an up-to-date view of the basic concepts, components, and applications of business computer systems. Topics covered will include computer hardware data management, telecommunications, Internet, business information systems, systems analysis and design, ethical and security issues. Microcomputer applications will be integrated into the course content.

Advanced Microcomputer Applications

This course builds on the skills and techniques learned in CBSY 1105 (Introduction Microcomputer Applications). Students will learn to identify and solve business problems using a database, spreadsheet, word processor and accounting package. Emphasis will be placed on linking the various components of Microsoft Office in solving these problems. The course contains a project that will require the student to research business opportunities, write project descriptions, develop that project using the application packages, prepare user documentation and present the results in written form. The current packages in use are Microsoft Windows95® Microsoft Office® and CA Simply Accounting®.

Prerequisites: CBSY 1105 and (ACCT 1110 or ACCT 1293 or ACCT 1160)

Accounting Information Systems

This course will provide accounting students with a basic knowledge of computer-based information systems, how they are developed and managed, and their role in the performance of accounting functions.
