All students applying for semester-based ABE English courses are strongly advised to take the ABE English Assessment prior to registration. If you are applying for ABE semester-based math course(s) and do not have the required pre-requisites, you are required to write the ABE Math Assessment.

An ABE Assessment will ensure that students register for the course most appropriate to their skill level. Assessments are available monthly throughout the year. Contact Admissions for a specific assessment date for both semester-based and continuous-intake courses. For September entry, assessment should be done in May or June and for January entry in August or September.

Students who wish to register for ABE semester-based courses requiring a grade 9 or 10 prerequisite must bring an official transcript to Admissions when they apply.

This self-paced arithmetic course will help the student gain the skills necessary to succeed with the mathematics required in the Office Administration program.

Fundamental Mathematics

Students will learn the fundamental operations of basic arithmetic (whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages) and apply the arithmetic to practical problems. They will also be introduced to metric measurement, geometry, and the interpretation of graphs.

Basic Mathematics

Students will briefly review fundamental arithmetic. They will then study the following topics in beginning algebra: introductory statistics, signed numbers, evaluation of expressions, solution of equations and inequalities, and word problems with one variable.
