Academic and Career Preparation will be of interest to those students who wish to:

Admission Requirements

Normal University College admission requirements apply. In addition, for continuous intake courses, all applicants, except those referred by instructors, must take assessments in English and math to ensure appropriate placement in the program. Assessments are booked through the Admissions Office.

Content

Class Format

Fundamental-level courses are given in a continuous-intake, self-paced format. Some courses at the Intermediate and Advanced levels are offered in both semester-based and self-paced class formats. Provincial-level courses are available on a semester basis.

Fundamental Level

Students will benefit from the fundamental level if they have difficulty with basic reading, writing, and math. Completion of this level prepares students for some trades programs and ACP courses at the Intermediate Level.

Intermediate Level (grade 10)

Completion of courses at this level prepares students for courses at the Advanced level, for direct entry into many trades and vocational programs, and for the GED.

Advanced Level

Completion of courses at this level prepares students for courses at the Provincial Level and for the LPI. Advanced-level courses may be used as prerequisites for many other courses at Kwantlen. Completion of Advanced English will normally allow a student to succeed in the LPI.

Provincial Level

Completion of courses at this level prepares students for direct entry into many Kwantlen programs.

Graduation - Provincial Level

The BC Adult Graduation Diploma, the "Adult Dogwood" is awarded through Kwantlen University College by the Ministry of Advanced Education, Training and Technology and the Ministry of Education.

Reading Lab

The reading skills laboratory offers individualized help to acquire reading, vocabulary, and spelling skills at all levels. It is available to all Kwantlen students and may be taken as preparation for, or at the same time as, other University College courses.

Directed Studies

Directed studies courses in Math and English are available for students with specific upgrading needs. Course content and requirements for completion are determined between the individual student and instructor.

Note: A "Provincially articulated" course is one that has been approved by the BC. government through a Provincial Articulation Committee and is recognized at all accredited colleges in BC.

Sponsorship

All courses are tuition free. Some sponsorships are available from Human Resources Development Canada. In addition, an ABE Student Assistance Program (ABESAP) may be available for students to assist with some expenses. Students on income assistance may be able to access TAB (Training Assistance Benefits) for assistance with fees and other course related expenses.
