Early Childhood Education EAL

Intake: January - 13 months

Graduation

Upon successful completion of the basic program, students are awarded a Certificate in Early Childhood Education.

Description

This program is designed for students whose first language is not English, but who are able to work at an advanced EASL level. In addition to the early childhood course work, students also receive EASL instruction to enable them to effectively communicate in providing care to young children and their families.

This full-time program has been designed so that the students develop English language skills plus the knowledge and competencies to become an Early Childhood Educator in a North American setting. Field experiences are a strong component of the program to help students apply knowledge from the classroom in a consistent and timely manner. In addition, there will be two Block Practicum experiences, the first after Semester 2 and the second after Semester 3 to provide students with a consolidation practice experience in an early childhood setting.

In the first term of studies, students will focus on the development of English language skills plus develop an understanding of early childhood education in North America. In the second term of studies, students will continue to develop English language skills plus begin applying specific programming during field experiences. In the final term of studies, the English language course becomes optional dependent on student need and the focus of studies is on the integration of knowledge, skills and abilities to help in the transition to a certified early childhood educator.
