KPU unveils its first strategic plan as a polytechnic university—VISION 2018

Metro Vancouver, BC – For the next five years, quality, reputation and relevance will be at the core of every decision made at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU). The details of the KPU Strategic Plan: VISION 2018 were unveiled June 7, 2013 by the University’s President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Alan Davis.

“VISION 2018 is the first strategic plan for KPU as a polytechnic university,” said Davis. “It sets expectations for quality, growth and accountability that are consistent with our mandate and reflective of the needs of our region.”

VISION 2018 recognizes KPU as a polytechnic and teaching-focused university with regional responsibilities. With the South Fraser region being one of the fastest growing areas in the province, KPU has set ambitious goals for student expansion and plans to ensure that programming will support the region’s rapid economic and demographic growth.

A hallmark of the KPU programs going forward will be the opportunity for all students to blend theory and practice in the community through workplace and service learning, through laboratory experiences on campus, or through working on applied research projects with faculty. The University is committed to providing experiential learning to KPU students to enrich their learning and facilitate their transition into the workforce.

The development of VISION 2018 involved broad consultation with the University community. The process also tested the draft plan against alternative futures of the region and higher education to anticipate the most significant trends that will influence the future of KPU over the next 30 years.
