Aboriginal

Aboriginal Teacher Education Award

This award will provide $5,000 annually for up to four years to individual Aboriginal students registered in a teacher education program at a BC post-secondary institution, leading to certification by the British Columbia Teachers' Council.

BC Aboriginal Student Awards

The BC Aboriginal Student Award was established in 2008 as part of the Provincial Government's strategy to improve Aboriginal access and achievement. Its purpose is to support Aboriginal people in getting post-secondary education by reducing financial barriers.

Ch'Nook Scholar Program

The Ch'nook Scholar Scholarships is open to Aboriginal students studying full time in a business program at a college or university in British Columbia and is inclusive of status and non status First Nation, Inuit and Metis students.

CN Diversity Scholarship Program

CN will offer $3,000 grants to best-in class women, visible minorities, persons with disabilities, military veterans and people of Aboriginal heritage in Canada who are studying in fields relevant to CN's core business. Fields that will be considered include engineering, transportation, sales and marketing, law, aboriginal studies, human resources, accounting, finance, sales, marketing, and computer sciences. First Citizens' Fund (FCF) Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs

The First Citizens Fund Student Bursary Program provides funding to students of Aboriginal ancestry to help support their post secondary education. It's funded by the Province of British Columbia and delivered by the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres. Eligible applicants must be permanent residents in British Columbia for six months or more at the time of application (not including attendance at post-secondary institution) and registered full-time in a minimum two-year academic program at any BC recognized post-secondary institution. Health Sciences Association of B.C. - Aboriginal Scholarship

HSA provides two $1000 busariesTo Aboriginal students from BC who are continuing or proceeding in any HSA related field leading to a recognized certification degree or diploma at a public college, university or post-secondary educational institution. Indspire

The Mungo Martin Memorial Award

These awards assist Aboriginal people to further their education, vocational training skills and competence in Aboriginal arts and creative work to further the artistic heritage of the Native peoples in their paintings, carving, music, dance folklore or language.

The Rose Nolan Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Rose Nolan Memorial Scholarship was established to recognize Aboriginal First Nation women who are acheiving their educational and training goals while maintaining strong community involvement. Scholarship awards will be given annually to Aboriginal First Nation women who have recently completed at least one year of full timae studies at any accredited post-secondary educational or training institute.

Royal Bank Aboriginal Student Awards

The RBC Royal Bank Aboriginal Student Awards Program was launched in 1992 to assist Aboriginal students to complete post secondary education, and provide an opportunity for RBC to strengthen its relationship with the Aboriginal community. RBC awards 10 scholarships in two categories:

  1. For student majoring in disciplines related to the financial services industry
  2. For student majoring in disciplines unrelated to the financial services industry

Chartered Accountants Education Foundation Award

Students can apply to the CA Education Foundation for one of 7 - $1000 tuition awards. Students must be in their final year of their diploma or degree program, include a letter indicating intention to become a CA, and submit an application form to the CPA Education Foundation. Students will receive their award upon registering with CASB or the ACIA program.

CGA - Adult Secondary Diploma Scholarships

Each year the Certified General Accountants Association awards a tuition scholarship of $1000 to a mature student who has completed work for a British Columbia or Yukon Secondary School Equivalency Certificate(GED) or BC Adult Graduation Diploma during the current academic year and wishes to expand ther career opportunities and achieve a further educational goal by entering the CGA program.

Ritchie-Jennings Memorial Scholarship Program

The Ritchie-Jennings Memorial Scholarship, the ACFE Foundation supports the education of students who have an interest in pursuing a career in fraud examination. The scholarship provides an opportunity for students to advance their education and anti-fraud career paths.

The Alberta Council for the Ukrainian Arts (ACUA)

This Award is offered annually for a project that fosters a greater awareness of Ukrainian art in Alberta. This project may be in form of an exhibition, tour, festival, educational program, or special project.

Association of Professional Biologists of British Columbia Scholarship (APB Scholarship)

The scholarship may be awarded each year to a student who is the son or daughter of a member in good standing of the Association, or who is a Student Member or Biologist In Training in good standing, of the APB.

The BC Government and Service Employees' Union is offering $45,000 in scholarship awards, $3,000 for full-time students and $2,000 for part-time students who are BCGEU members or relatives of BCGEU members or staff. The deadline is February 28, 2014.

Cal Callahan Memorial Bursary

The recipient must be a son, daughter, or ward of a person whose principal income is derived from the pipeline construction industry in Canada and whose employer is a member of the Pipe Line Contractors Association of Canada. The deadline is September 30.

Federation of BC Youth in Care Networks

The Dream Fund bursaries offers financial support to young people interested in career training and/or education opportunities. It is a scholarship fund for young people in and from government care in B.C. and is distributed to successful applicants three times a year.

Grand Lodge Masonic Bursaries

The Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of BC/Yukon offers annual bursaries to young men and women entering post secondary education. Recipients for these awards are selected from among applicants who have satisfactory academic standing and who are beginning or are continuing undergraduate studies at UBC, SFU, UVIC, BCIT or a regional college, in a full program leading to a degree or certificate in any field. Preference is given to applicants entering the university or college from Grade 12 and to undergraduates in a second year studies. To qualify for consideration, a candidate must obtain an application form from the:

Holstein Association of Canada

Each year Holstein recognizes and awards students who are well-rounded in their farm involvement, future career choices; and excel in their academic studies. Applicants must be a regular or junior member of Holstein Canada, or a son/daughter of a member; but not required to be in agriculture program. The deadline is November 29, 2013.

Icelandic Canadian Club Scholarships

The Icelandic Canadian Club of British Columbia has established a fund to provide financila assistance to students of Icelandic origin who are residents of British Columbia and who are beginning or continuing a program of post-secondary education. Ireland Canada University Foundation
The Ireland Fund of Canada Dobbin Scholarships

The awards are designed principally for scholars and academics who are either beginning or are currently engaged at graduate level research in a discipline which is, or has potential to be, related to both Ireland and Canada, and are tenable for travel from Canadian to Irish Universities. Leonard Foundation Scholarships

The scholarships are open to full time students who are enrolled in undergraduate or first professional degree programs at any Canadian college or University recognized by AUCC. The MADD Canada Bursary Fund is for Canadian students who have had a parent or guardian killed in an impaired-driving related crash and are pursuing any full time educational program that is approved by a provincial Ministry of Education. Bursaries are available to sons or daughters of past or present members or employees (or persons to whom a past or present member or employee stood In Loco Parentis) of the Pacific Coast Fishermen's Mutual Marine Insurance Company. Royal Canadian Legion, Ladies Auxiliary, Branch 160 Bursary

A bursary in the amount of $500 has been offered by the Ladies' Auxiliary, Branch 160, Royal Canadian Legion, Pacific Command. Royal Canadian Legion

The Royal Canadian Legion offers annually a number of bursaries for students proceeding from secondary school to university as well as students entering the second, third, and fourth years. Preference is given to sons and daughters and grandchildren of deceased, disabled, or other ex-service personnel, but applications from other worthy students are also considered. Royal Canadian Naval Benevolent Fund

Financial assistance in the form of scholarships, bursaries, grants, and interest free loans is available to members and former members of the Naval Forces of Canada or their dependents for purposes of attending college, university or other educational and vocational institutions. Applications must be submitted after September 1 and received no later than the last business day in October.

Maxine Sevack Memorial Grant

A scholarship fund has been established by the Sevack Family to honour the memory of their daughter, Maxine, a freelance journalist who died in a plane accident in Guatemala in 1986.

The Robert Caton and David Bates Scholarships

Robert Caton was well-known in the field of air pollution and environmental management. He was also known for his support for, and mentoring of, students and working scientists. Friends and colleagues have established a Scholarship in his name.

Dr. David Bates was one of the foremost international authorities on the health effects of air pollution and a professor at the University of British Columbia. He trained numerous leading respiratory physicians and researchers who now work around the world on respiratory health with a particular emphasis on the health effects of air pollution. In 2003, he was named to the Order of Canada. Robert Caton and David Bates were friends and collaborated together on many projects. The David Bates award is supported by the BC CLEAR Fund.

These scholarships are intended to support graduate-level students with high ideals, demonstrated interest in studies relating to atmospheric sciences, air quality and health, and specific goals leading to future work in that field.

Students who have completed at least Grade 11 (Secondary V in Quebec) to enroll in five-week immersion courses in French.

A number of official-language programs are available to residents of BC. Funded by the Government of Canada and Administered by the BC Ministry of Education, the following programs are currently available:

Organization of American States (OAS) Fellowships Programs

OAS offers scholarships for study or research at the Master's or PhD level that lead to a degree at a university or educational institution in an OAS Member State. The studies must be carried out on a full-time basis and may be pursued by on-site, by distance education or a combination of both. Two scholarships of $5,000 each will be awarded, one of which will be reserved for a student with a permanent disability. National Educational Association of Disabled Students (NEADS)

With the support of the Canada Student Loans Program and the Office for Disability Issues, NEADS has developed a site containing over 300 scholarships, awards and bursaries specifically for post-secondary students with disabilities.

The Holly Bartlett Bursary and NEADS

Offered to encourage full access to post-secondary education for persons with disabilities who often have greater barriers to participation in higher education and extra costs because of their disabilities. Students must be registered in a post-secondary institution and provide documented proof of registration. The award will be offered to outstanding applicants, who meet the criteria of the program. Deadline to Apply April 15, 2014

  3. Applicants must be currently registered in and returning to a full-time program of study at an accredited Canadian post-secondary college or university. Full time status is at least 40% of a full course load.

Rixon Rafter Scholarship

The Rixon Rafter Scholarship Fund will make available scholarship awards to legally blind Canadians pursuing post-secondary studies with strong career aspirations. Silver Cross Ability Achievement Scholarship

The Silver Cross Scholarship is offered to full time college and university students who use a manual wheelchair, power wheelchair, or mobility scooter while attending classes. One applicant each from the US and Canada will be selected to receive the $3,000 scholarship award. The annual application deadline is December 31.

Wade Wicks Memorial Bursary

The Association for Technology Professionals in BC is offering this Bursary in memory of Wade Wicks, a young man who maintained a positive, “can-do” attitude in spite of his struggles with muscular dystrophy. This bursary is intended for students who are overcoming any significant or extraordinary obstacle to pursue an education in technology, with priority being given to students with physical challenges. Students who are pursuing a minimum four-year degree in welding. The application deadline is February 15.

Praxair International Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time college student pursuing a minimum four-year bachelors degree in welding engineering or welding engineering technology; however, priority will be given to welding engineering students. Applicant must have a minimum 2.5 overall grade point average. The applicant must demonstrate leadership abilities through clubs, organizations, extra-curricular academic activities, community involvement, etc. Financial need is not required; however, it would be a primary consideration in prioritizing top candidates. The applicant must be a United States or Canadian citizen and plan to attend an academic institution located within the United States or Canada. The award is $2,500, and is granted on an annual basis.

The application deadline is January 15, for the following fall term. Funding is made available June 1 - May 31.

Resistance Welder Manufacturers' Association Scholarship

A scholarship fund has been established by the Sevack Family to honour the memory of their daughter, Maxine, a freelance journalist who died in a plane accident in Guatemala in 1986.
