KPU public relations students raise $9,000 for Autism Support Dogs
(Metro Vancouver, BC) – Students enrolled in Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s (KPU) public relations diploma program raised $9,000 for Autism Support Dogs. The event, hosted by Mark Madryga, took place February 27, 2013, at the Dockside Lounge on Granville Island.
“Organizing an annual charity fundraising event is a key assignment for students in KPU’s public relations diploma program,” said Wayne Tebb, dean, school of business, KPU. “This year, the charity that provides support dogs for children with autism will receive $9,000.00 as a result of this student project. Kwantlen students are engaged in our community and create value for the community; what better evidence can Kwantlen provide of the skills of our graduates! I am thrilled to see the benefits created by our students!”

Each year the graduating class of KPU’s PR program raises funds for an organization of their choice. The event is planned by the entire class throughout the duration of a semester. With this project, students gain valuable event planning experience that they are able to put on their resume, and apply to real-working experiences upon graduation.
KPU’s public relations program is a 60-credit diploma organized into four semesters. Students develop the basic skills, work habits and attitudes they need to succeed both as students and as PR professionals. Students apply their public relations skills to a variety of projects for clients, culminating in a one-month work experience in the public relations industry.
