KPU to host Richmond all-candidates debate Nov. 4

Tue, Oct 28, 2014

Richmond, B.C. – Richmond councillor candidates will take to the stage at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) Nov. 4 to discuss issues that are important to post-secondary students.

KPU and the Kwantlen Student Association (KSA) are co-hosting the two-hour forum at KPU Richmond’s Melville Centre for Dialogue.

“The KSA has a responsibility to create informative spaces for dialogue for our students and our communities,” said KSA president Jessica Lar-Son. “This debate is a great opportunity for students to give our municipal leadership some insight into the issues that matter most to students.”

Candidates will have the opportunity to weigh in on topics such as environmental sustainability, employment, affordable housing and transportation. The latter is also the focus of a new KSA campaign – Move Our Cities – which challenges candidates to find affordable transit solutions for the South Fraser region.

Members of the general public are welcome and urged to attend, says Lar-Son, as the issues that affect youth affect everyone.

“These issues are relevant to municipal elections, but also have an impact at the provincial and federal levels,” she said.

The forum is Tuesday, Nov. 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. at KPU Richmond’s Melville Centre for Dialogue, 8771 Lansdowne Rd. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and parking is free.
