Automotive-Industrial Upholstery/Trim


Offered at Newton
Length of Program: 9 months
Description
This program prepares students for entry-level employment as automotive upholsterers. Basic theory and related information along with hands-on shop practice will enable students to become competent in basic and custom automotive upholstery work.
Career Opportunities
Employment opportunities exist with upholstery shops, glass shops, aviation industry and industrial upholstery trimming shops that specialize in a particular area of work, such as restoring cars or custom work.
Admission Requirements
Students must meet either the regular student admission category or the mature student admission category in addition to the following
  • Adequate reading comprehension and math skills as assessed by Kwantlen
  • Interview with instructor

Due to the nature of this program, students should have satisfactory physical health.

UPHA 1101: General Information
Safety and handling equipment
Sewing machine operation
Trim and hardware
Materials, estimates and public relations
Models and styles of automobiles
UPHA 1102: Door Panels
Design, layout, cutting, sewing and installation of door panels in custom or original interiors.
UPHA 1103: Seats
Remove seat covers, design, layout and sew new covers - then install
UPHA 1104: Carpets
Remove, pattern, sew and install carpets in automobiles
UPHA 1105: Glass
Remove and install glass in vehicles.
UPHA 1106: Headliners
Remove, layout, cut and sew a new headliner, plus installation
UPHA 1107: Vinyl Tops
Remove, pattern and sew a new vinyl top and install to meet factory original specifications
Graduation
Upon successful completion of this program, students are awarded a Certificate in Automotive-Industrial Upholstery/ Trim.
