Fashion Design & Textile Studies

FSDN 4100 cr-2
Textile Studies for Teachers: Pattern Drafting & Garment Construction
Students will practice, assess, and update classroom techniques in pattern drafting and manipulation, and garment construction. They will develop patterns for one top (hooded sweatshirt, vest, blouse or simple jacket) and one bottom (skirt or pants) to be produced as full-scale garments. Students will use a wide range of garment construction techniques.
Note: This course, offered as part of a certificate in collaboration with UBC, is designed for teachers of secondary and post- secondary textiles studies who want to strengthen their knowledge in the area, or for teachers who want to develop expertise for the teaching of textiles studies.
Prerequisites: Teacher training or teaching experience in secondary Home Economics or post-secondary Fashion or Clothing & Textiles and sewing experience

Textile Studies for Teachers: Portfolio Development, Fashion Drawing & CAD
Students will practise, assess, and update classroom techniques in portfolio development, with particular attention to drawing and presenting clothed figures and technical drawings of garments. They will develop garment drawings by hand and by using computer software.
Note: This course, offered as part of a certificate in collaboration with UBC, is designed for teachers of secondary and post- secondary textiles studies who want to strengthen their knowledge in the area, or for teachers who want to develop expertise for the teaching of textiles studies.
Prerequisites: Teacher training or teaching experience in secondary Home Economics or post-secondary Fashion or Clothing & Textiles and basic computer skills
