Interdisciplinary Expressive Arts (IDEA)
YOUR LIFE. YOUR LEARNING. YOUR WAY.
IDEA courses are an opportunity to ask yourself foundational questions and find meaningful answers. Through collaborative learning, individualized curriculum and purposeful play, IDEA courses help you discover your own path, recognizing that beneath your academic studies is an authentic search for knowledge and purpose.
LEADERSHIP AND PERFORMANCE
Learners in IDEA win awards, earn scholarships, present at conferences, and consistently demonstrate leadership in academic life and beyond. The engaging environment of IDEA— with its focus on the integration of personal and professional development—provides exemplary opportunities for you to develop the skills necessary to achieve outstanding results in whatever you pursue. In 2012, four of the finalists, including the winner of the Dean’s Medal in the Faculty of Arts, were learners who had completed IDEA courses.
FOCUSED LEARNING AND TRANSFORMATIVE ENVIRONMENT
In the IDEA classroom, students build an integrative, engaging, and playful learning environment both within and beyond the classroom. We explore and learn to facilitate and lead the creative process and we examine our personal strengths and vulnerabilities. The IDEA environment is collaborative. We build upon the individual strengths of each participant to discover the quality and integrity of our learning community. With self-awareness, empathy and character development as the foundations of our curriculum, we construct communities of personal and creative inquiry.
