Pharmacology PNUR 1100* (online)

Course Description

This course is for Registered Nurses (RNs).  This self-paced online course provides an opportunity to review Canadian Pharmacology. A qualified RN instructor facilitates the course and is available for support / questions.  The course is divided into multiple units which identifies the learner’s foundational knowledge with a focus on areas for enhanced learning.  Learners must meet all learning objectives by reviewing and completing learning activities and course worksheets. Exams are incorporated into the units to measure achievement.  Learners have access to all course materials and are permitted to work on the units out of sequence. This course has a flexible delivery model as some units may be review, and other units represent new learning.

Please note:  Applicants intending to register for Consolidated Clinical (PNUR 1130) are required to show proof of English proficiency.  Please see the Consolidated Clinical website for full details.

Course Format

This self-paced, online tutor available Pharmacology course is offered every semester.  Learners are expected to spend five (5) to six (6) hours per unit (total of 9 units) online, supplemented by additional research and study time. It is anticipated that students will complete at least one (1) unit per week dependent upon knowledge acquisition abilities and previous level of foundational knowledge. Exams are an additional two (2) hours, three (3) times within the course.  The course is open for the full semester (14 weeks) though learners may complete sooner.  Learners who register late do not have the full fourteen (14) weeks available to them.  No extensions are available.

Course Cost

$500.00 CAD, plus GST (Please note: All Faculty of Health, Professional Studies course fees are non-refundable/non-transferrable.)

Course Grade

Successful grade for this course is Mastery.

Learners who are not successful in PNUR 1100, Pharmacology may attempt the course for a second time. Learners requesting a second attempt are required to seek permission from the Director, in writing. Learners are advised to contact their Canadian Nursing Regulatory Body for advisement if they are not successful after a second attempt. No exceptions. Please note, there is no appeal mechanism within KPU for students receiving non-mastery.

Registration is completed via Flexreg.  The course to search is PNUR 1100. 

Registration Deadline

Flexreg limits registration for all courses to 30 days from the start of class.  As registration for this course is extended beyond 30 days from the start of class, each month a new registration option will open on Flexreg to permit ongoing registration.  However, final registration for this course closes 1 month prior to the end of the semester to ensure learners have sufficient time to complete the course.

Internet access required.  Wi-Fi technology not recommended for quiz/exams.  Online course modality may not be fully functional when utilizing iPads &/or android devices.

Textbook required.  Do not start the course without the text.
