Internationalization is a growing priority in many Canadian post-secondary institutions. This requires culturally relevant academic support services for a diverse population of International students and recent immigrants in order to achieve strong student retention and success. How can this be achieved?
The purpose of this workshop is to:
- Discuss the need for connecting international and new immigrant students with learning and other support services in culturally relevant ways
- Outline a process for engaging international tutors in identifying learning needs
- Identify the benefits of engaging international peer tutors/mentors in the facilitation of academic skills workshops
- Present a model for training experienced peer tutors as workshop facilitators
