Career Exploration

Feeling uncertain about your career path? Start here.

The Career Exploration Toolkit is a comprehensive workbook designed to guide you through a structured career exploration process. You're NOT choosing one career forever. You're exploring possibilities, gathering information, and building confidence in your decision-making. Before choosing a career path, take some time to get to know yourself. Understanding your interests, skills, values, and personality can help you find careers that truly fit you.

What's Inside the Toolkit

Self-Discovery
Take free career assessments to learn more about your strengths and preferences. The toolkit includes direct links to assessments that measure your interests (O\*NET Interest Profiler), personality (Career Explorer or 16Personalities), values (123test), and skills (Career One Stop). You'll have space to record your top results and reflect on what you discover about yourself.

Research
Explore real career options based on your assessment results. Access provincial and national resources including Work BC, Job Bank (Canada), NOC (National Occupational Classification), Education Planner BC, Career Mapping, and more. Learn how to research the job market, understand required skills and education, and begin taking steps toward your goals.

Narrow Down Career Options
Compare at least 3 possible career paths using labour market information from Work BC and NOC (National Occupational Classification). Research job titles, typical tasks, education requirements, key skills, salary ranges, growth outlook, and potential employers for each option.

Goal Setting & Action Planning
Turn your exploration into tangible steps you can take while at university. Define short-term and long-term goals, then create a specific action plan covering academics, skill development, volunteering, work experiences, networking, and informational interviews.

Download the Career Exploration Toolkit and start discovering careers that align with who you are.
