Daniel Bakan

B.A. (York), M.A. (Tor.), Ph.D. (U.B.C.)

 

Dr. Daniel (Danny) Bakan is a scholar, musician, actor, director, playwright, songwriter, educator, and performing artist. Danny holds a Ph.D in Curriculum and Pedagogy from UBC with a focus on music education, a Masters degree in Curriculum, Teaching and Learning (arts education) from The University of Toronto, and has taught music and creative arts pedagogy at Ryerson University’s School of Early Childhood Education and UBC’s Faculty of Education. A multi-disciplinary artist as well as a teacher/scholar, his career has included work in music, children's theatre, videography, puppetry, mask and clowning. Danny's artistic portfolio includes two CDs of original songs, performances across North America, theatrical productions, dance scores, children’s musicals, and appearances on CBC, syndicated US radio, and National Public Radio in the USA.He plays guitar, banjo, ukulele, writes songs, writes about song and is interested in arts-based research, society and identity, story, creativity, the history of ideas and education, and digital creative arts practices. He is passionate about teaching and learning through the arts.
