Professional Experience:

Instructor/Instructional Associate, Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU)

  • I have worked in the Horticulture Bachelor Degree program at KPU since 2014. I teach HORT 3320 Plant Pathology (Lecture and Lab) and various labs for upper-level horticulture courses. I also supervise students' research projects in the lab. My research focuses on exploring cultivation and applications of Chinese medicinal plants in Canada, and utilization of medicinal plants in the prevention and treatment of plant diseases.

Research Scientist, University of British Columbia (UBC)

  • I worked at the Forest Pathology lab at UBC. My work involved investigating forest diseases and pathogen populations in Metro Vancouver, developing DNA fingerprinting techniques for identifying forest pathogens, and constructing a DNA library for the top 50 unwanted forest pathogens in Canada.

Associate Professor, Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine

  • My research focused on medicinal plant identification, conservation, and implementing Good Agricultural Practices (GPA) for medicinal plant production and quality control of crude drugs. I have published research in monographs, books, and papers in China. I taught courses such as General Botany, Chinese Botanical Medicine, Plant Taxonomy, Chinese Medicinal Plant Identification, Plant Physiology, and General Biology. I also supervised research projects for both Master’s and undergraduate students.
