Kwantlen honours interior design graduate with President’s Outstanding Graduate Award

(METRO VANCOUVER, B.C.) Kim Barichievy, Bachelor of Applied Design in Interior Design graduate and Surrey resident, received Kwantlen’s President’s Outstanding Graduate Award for a bachelor's degree program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s 2009 Convocation ceremony held at its Surrey Campus.

As an aspiring interior designer, choosing Kwantlen was an easy decision for Barichievy. It is the only university in B.C. to offer an accredited degree program in interior design. As soon as she started her program at Kwantlen, Barichievy felt even more inspired and intrigued by interior design. Kwantlen’s curriculum combined design theories with hands-on projects and real-world learning opportunities. She especially enjoyed a memorable class trip to Cuba to study design theories with respect to the context of site, culture, climate and geography.

Aside from studying, Barichievy has also been an active member of the Kwantlen community. She is the treasurer and member of Kwantlen’s Emerging Green Builder’s Group and a class representative of Kwantlen’s Mobile E-Learning Committee. Her hard work and contribution to the community have earned her many accolades, including: the Interior Designers Institute of British Columbia Student Excellence Award, Shaw Carpet Award, Light Resource Award, and the Derek Francis Award.

Presented annually, this award encourages Kwantlen students to excel in their chosen fields of study and to participate in university, student and community activities to the benefit of others. Recipients have completed all their study in one program at Kwantlen; have consistently shown outstanding ability in the field; have contributed in a significant way to Kwantlen or community affairs; and may be recommended by faculty.
