Kwantlen receives $457,596 to enhance energy efficiency

(METRO VANCOUVER, B.C.) Kwantlen Polytechnic University received $457,596 in capital funding from the provincial government through a province-wide energy reduction initiative, the Public Sector Energy Conservation Agreement.

Through this agreement, the B.C. government and Kwantlen have partnered to fund this $609,996 project. The project entails equipment upgrades at Kwantlen’s Surrey and Langley campuses on its heating, ventilation, air conditioning and lighting systems, which will lead to significant energy savings as well as reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.

“The project is expected to save 1,884,161 equivalent kilowatt hours per year. Cost avoidance is estimated at $81,691 per year,” remarked Dan Brown, Kwantlen physical plant manager.

Kwantlen Polytechnic University brings with it a tradition of providing access pathways for students with different talents and abilities, and opportunities for all who are willing to work hard to realize their goals. Key to Kwantlen’s new mandate is an enhanced capacity to integrate research and external community engagement within a learning environment that places students at the centre of all that the university does.
