Kwantlen awards $40,000 in entrance scholarships to Langley students


(METRO VANCOUVER, B.C.) In recognition of outstanding academic standing and leadership, Kwantlen Polytechnic University awarded the following five Langley high school graduates with entrance scholarships: Vanessa Vilardi from Walnut Grove Secondary received the President’s Entrance Scholarship valued at $20,000; Brooke Chorney from Walnut Grove Secondary received the Merit Entrance Scholarship valued at $5,000; Jennifer Navarro from R.E. Mountain Secondary received the Merit Entrance Scholarship valued at $5,000; Catherine Thompson from Langley Secondary received the Merit Entrance Scholarship valued at $5,000; and Dylan Murphy from D.W. Poppy Secondary received the Merit Entrance Scholarship valued at $5,000.

“I am honoured to receive the President’s Entrance Scholarship and it will continuously motivate me to focus on my studies and strive for excellence,” said Vilardi, who is taking an important first step toward her future career at Kwantlen. “As a new university student this fall, I am excited to start working toward attaining my Bachelor of Arts in Criminology at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. With this degree I plan to fulfill my ultimate goal of obtaining a law degree and becoming a lawyer.”

The Kwantlen Leaders of Tomorrow awards are given to top academic high school students who will be pursuing full-time studies at Kwantlen. President’s Entrance Scholarship and Merit Entrance Scholarships are each awarded to school districts in Metro Vancouver including Richmond, Surrey, Delta, Langley, Vancouver, Ridge Meadows or any other districts.

Kwantlen Leaders of Tomorrow awards, which have been increased to $210,000 for 2010, are available to students who are enrolling at Kwantlen for the first time. Academic excellence, program of study, community/school involvement and volunteer activities are some of the areas reviewed in the selection process. For more info, visit: kwantlen.ca/awards
