Kwantlen welcomes Canada’s top chef in celebration of International Education Week

(METRO VANCOUVER, B.C.) Chop, dice, sauté. Kwantlen Polytechnic University welcomes Canada’s best-known chef Michael Smith, television show host and acclaimed cookbook author, on November 17 at the Surrey Campus. The famous chef is making a special guest appearance as the university celebrates International Education Week with a series of festivities to showcase the significant contribution that international education makes in preparing Canadians for the global stage.

With experiences cooking in finest restaurant kitchens in Canada, the United States, South America, and the Caribbean, as well as in London at a three-star Michelin restaurant, Smith will deliver a keynote speech to Kwantlen students, employees and community members on the international influence on his culinary creations and food sustainability.

Following his speech, Smith will showcase a special food presentation in the school cafeteria featuring dishes from his latest cookbook. Wrapping up his visit at Kwantlen, Smith will be offering free samples of his signature appetizers while fans and food enthusiasts will have a chance to have their cookbooks signed.

“International Education Week is such an important opportunity to celebrate and showcase the diversity on our campuses,” comments Joshua Mitchell, director of student engagement at Kwantlen. “We're so pleased to have Michael Smith visiting as part of the week's events. As Canada's very own Chef Abroad, his visit really is so appropriate for the week's theme.”

From November 15 to 19, International Education Week at Kwantlen will feature educational presentations, demonstrations and activities spotlighting cultures from around the globe with international food themes in the cafeteria on campus.
