Kwantlen Polytechnic University Appoints New Provost and VP Academic

SURREY, BC – (April 21, 2011) – Kwantlen Polytechnic University announces the appointment of Dr. Anne Lavack as Provost and Vice President Academic. Dr Lavack, the current Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Regina will join Kwantlen on July 1, 2011.

Dr. Lavack completed her Ph.D. at the University of British Columbia in 1997. She joined the University of Regina as an Associate Professor in 2001, was promoted to Professor in 2006, and served from 2005-2007 as Associate Dean & Director of the Kenneth Levene Graduate School of Business. From 2007 through 2009 she was Acting Dean in the Faculty of Business Administration, and was appointed to Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration in July 2009. Prior to joining the University of Regina, she served at Concordia University in Montreal and the University of Winnipeg.

Dr. Lavack has been the recipient of numerous research grants, including a SSHRC Standard Grant and SSHRC Strategic grants. Her external research grants have funded employment at University of Regina for more than 20 full-time co-op undergraduate students and more than a dozen part-time graduate research assistants. Dr. Lavack has chaired SSHRC grant adjudication committees, and has been a member of CIHR grant adjudication committees. She is well-known internationally for her work in the area of social marketing, with a particular focus on the area of tobacco de-marketing. During her 10 years at the University of Regina, Dr. Lavack has published 35 journal articles and has given more than 50 research presentations at national and international conferences in her field.

An active member of the community, Dr Lavack has served on the Board of Directors of the Regina & District Chamber of Commerce since 2007, and held the role of Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of SGI from 2008-2011. She was a Public Representative on the Council of the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses’ Association (SRNA) from 2005-2008 as well as a Board Member for the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse in Ottawa from 2002-2011, serving as Interim Chair of the organization from 2009-2011.
