Kwantlen presents $5,370.00 cheque to the Canadian Cancer Society

(SURREY, B.C.) Kwantlen Polytechnic University proudly presented a $5,370.00 cheque to the Canadian Cancer Society with funds raised going towards cancer research, and creating awareness about the disease.

"We've all been touched by cancer. In fact, two in five Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime and one in four will die," says Nicola Romaniuk, coordinator, annual giving, daffodil campaign. "That's why we're so thankful Kwantlen joined the fight back this past April. Their support and fundraising for the Canadian Cancer Society makes such a difference in the lives of those facing cancer. Together, Kwantlen and the Canadian Cancer Society are making cancer history."

Kwantlen decided to take part in April's Daffodil Drive by handing out daffodil pins and live daffodils by donation, as well as raising money and awareness by the head-shaving of Harry Gray, associate vice-president of human resources.
"Every day I take a few minutes to think about the six of my friends and colleagues who are fighting cancer right now," says Harry. "Through awareness and research, many lives can be saved from this disease, and I am so thankful to all those who supported me in my efforts to raise funds and awareness."

Kwantlen has been involved in raising funds for cancer research since 1997, giving employees an opportunity to donate via payroll deduction, and the annual "Movember" dodge ball tournament, as well as supporting Kwantlen teams that have participated in various walks.

Kwantlen Polytechnic University has been serving the Metro Vancouver region for 30 years, and has opened doors to success for more than 250,000 people. Four campuses—Richmond, Surrey, Cloverdale and Langley—offer a comprehensive range of sought-after programs, including business, liberal arts and science, design, health, trades and technology, apprenticeships, horticulture, and academic and career advancement. Over 17,500 students annually have a choice from over 200 programs, including bachelor's degrees, associate degrees, diplomas, certificates and citations.
