Our world is both “shrinking” and “enlarging” at the same time as modern immersive technologies connect us in new ways. No longer are we re liant on just words on paper to connect us with places and people. Images, both static and streaming, are becoming the main means of producing and “consuming” information about our natural and cultural environments. Spatial literacy, and its core of spatial thinking, employs multi-disciplinary and multi-dimensional r epresentations of reality to define, visualize and conceptualize the challenges facing humanity, and help seek innovative and novel solutions to address them. I t is emerging as an important skill necessary to successfully navigate the “information age”.
