From the High Renaissance to the French Revolution and the Age of Impressionism and the early avant-garde, this course provides a selective survey of European and North American visual art and culture objects, including works of painting, sculpture, printmaking, architecture, and other art forms fro m the Late Renaissance to the 20th Century. This 4-hour class includes time for viewing films. From the dawn of moving pictures through to the present world of blockbuster franchise mo vies, this course focuses students on the history and development of world cinema and examines film as a visual language and art-making practice. Students will learn methods for exploring aesthetic and technical functions of film along with considering the social, political, and technological contexts of moving picture s. This is a Summer Session 2 course: July 2 - August 12.
