The B.E.S.T. (Building Essential Skills in Therapy) Lab is focused on helping students develop the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed for future careers in clinical psychology and mental health. Through hands-on learning experiences, students gain exposure to the essential components of clinical practice, including interviewing, assessment, case formulation, and treatment planning.
Our lab emphasizes the human side of therapy: learning how to build meaningful connections, communicate with empathy, and understand the unique experiences of individuals from diverse backgrounds. We explore how cultural factors, ethical considerations, and emotional awareness shape clinical work and influence the therapeutic process. Students are encouraged to think critically, reflect on real-world clinical challenges, and engage in collaborative discussions that bridge psychological theory and practice.
By combining skill development with professional growth, the B.E.S.T. Lab provides an environment where students can strengthen their interviewing and communication abilities, develop cultural competence and ethical decision-making skills, and learn to work effectively as part of a team. Ultimately, the lab aims to prepare aspiring clinicians for graduate training and future work in psychology by building the essential skills that form the foundation of effective and compassionate therapy.
