SRIG is a great opportunity to support independently guided student research. In cases like my own, it helped fund the acquisition and testing of specialty and proprietary fabrics I would have otherwise not pushed myself to seek out. Having a project in the field of design acknowledged as the truly hands-on research that it is encouraged me to push the boundaries of what is possible without worrying about failures along the way (as failure is truly an inevitability in any research worth conducting is it not?) It was difficult, frustrating many times, yet having the opportunity to present and showcase my finished research project as a grant recipient has been worth every second, every struggle along the way.
