Given the lack of scholarly opportunities for international students, I’m very grateful to the Student Research and Innovation Grant (SRIG) for awarding me the opportunity to be a Research Assistant to Dr. Isabel Scheuneman Scott. Being involved in front line research, especially scholarship that seeks to address gaps within the field of criminology, specifically incarcerated Indigenous motherhood, is extremely meaningful. Stories are important, and I feel honoured that I’ve been able to hear and help share the story of Bobbie Kidd, the first woman in Canada to keep her baby in federal prison.
