Community Partnerships

The Phoenix Centre and ACP Faculty

Through a partnership with KPU and the faculty at ACP, a unique learning program has been developed that provides the following services specifically developed to assist individuals in recovery with education and upgrading.

Education and Services include:

  • Formal academic assessment and educational upgrading of English, Math, and study skills
  • Educational assistance with GED or ABE completion
  • Academic upgrading/preparation for entry into further post secondary education programs, apprenticeship or trades training programs
  • Strengthening Career Plans and SDEB applications
  • Improving “Essential Skills” (Literacy and Numeracy) in preparation for employment or training
  • KPU partner, Phoenix Society just received funds from Surrey White Rock Community Literacy Implementation Funds to provide honorariums, child care, bus tickets and food for 15 learners in a pilot University Course where ten faculty will donate their ‘best’ class.

Kwantlen Polytechnic University gets $2.5 million gift donation from Irving (Ike) Barber, found of Slocan Forest Products

On April 26, 2010, Irving Barber endowed $2.5 million to the Faculty of Academic & Career Preparation in order to help students overcome obstacles and complete their post-secondary education.

Kwantlen Polytechnic University has partnership agreements with a number of school districts in the Lower Mainland. 

They are:
Coquitlam, Delta, Langley, Maple Ridge, Richmond , Squamish and Surrey School Districts. 

The purpose of these partnerships is to allow students enrolled in high school courses (grade 11 or 12) to start or complete a post-secondary program prior to acquiring their grade twelve BC Dogwood Certificate.
