GEOG 4501 (3) Current issues: Geographic Controversies

Geographic Controversies

Instructor: John Rose

Short Description:

In this course, students will investigate a series of current ‘geographic controversies’, contentious issues around access to, restrictions on, and the provision of spaces.  The focus of the course is on three main topics: transgender and same-sex spaces, proposed solutions to homelessness, and the COVID-19 pandemic.  In alignment with a vision of the university as an institution supporting open inquiry, critical thinking, and constructive disagreement, students will explore and assess a diverse array of positions on these issues.  They will also engage in, and present to their peers, research on other contemporary ‘geographic controversies’.
