Common Errors to Avoid*

• Citation error, such as not providing the appropriate reference
• No citations at all
• Attributing content to the wrong author
• No reference page
• Not following proper citation rules – APA versus MLA
• Changing a few words of a passage makes the idea/content your own

How to Prevent Plagiarism Errors*

• Allocate enough time to follow the proper citation rules
• Meet with a citation librarian when you aren’t sure how to cite an author
• When in doubt, always err on the side of citation
• Cite passages as you write your document – it will be easier to track which author made which point
