Kwuntiltunaat Kim Baird will finish her term as Chancellor in October 2026.

The Chancellor is the university’s ceremonial head and presides over convocation and the conferring of degrees. The position also carries voting rights on the University Senate and Board of Governors, as set out in the University Act. Although the role has no independent executive authority, it remains an important part of the university’s governance and ceremonial life.

Under section 11 of the University Act, the Board of Governors appoints the Chancellor following a nomination from the Alumni Association and consultation with the Senate. The Chancellor serves a three-year term and remains in office until a successor is appointed. The role may be renewed, but no one may serve more than six consecutive years. The Chancellor cannot be employed by a university.

A joint committee representing the Board of Governors, Senate, and Alumni Association will review all nominations.

  • Passion for and commitment to higher education
  • Respected standing in the community, with the ability to elevate the university’s reputation and support its mission
  • Meaningful connection or history with the institution
  • Demonstrated commitment to philanthropy, especially in communities served by the university
  • Ability to actively engage with the KPU community and devote sufficient time to the role.

We welcome candidates from all backgrounds.

Please note that self-nominations will not be accepted.
