2026 Vancouver Sun Run Tips, Week 3: Rest & Recovery

Description:

The deadline for team registration has passed but there is still time to take part in the Vancouver Sun Run by registering as an individual! You can learn more about individual registration here. Please note that participants who register independently will need to pick up their own race package at the Sun Run Expo.

Are you feeling the effects of the time change? As the clocks spring forward, it’s the perfect opportunity to check-in on your sleep, rest, and recovery habits.

Sleep

Sleep plays an important role in exercise recovery. During sleep, the body supports muscle repair, restores energy, and prepares us for the day ahead. When we don’t get enough sleep, it can impact our training quality by reducing coordination, reducing reaction times, and increasing fatigue.

Tip: Aim for a consistent sleep schedule by going to bed and waking up at the same time every day (even weekends).

Rest & Recovery

Did you know that rest days are a critical part of training? Adequate rest helps reduce injury risk and improves our performance over time.

Rest days can include light movement such as an easy walk or light stretching. Your rest days should leave you feeling mentally and physically prepared for your next workout!

Tip: Run on non-consecutive days, instead of back-to-back.
