Description:

The Office of AVP Research and Innovation is happy to host a special Lunch & Learn session for students, faculty, and staff. We are thrilled to host 2025 Distinguished Teacher Award recipient Alym Amlani (Melville School of Business) to deliver his talk, "Caught in the Middle: Teaching with Integrity in the Age of AI".

About the talk:
ChatGPT and other AI tools have made it easier for students to blur the lines — but not all instructors agree on where those lines are. This talk explores how AI is changing academic integrity and why inconsistent messaging across courses is making it worse. You'll walk away with strategies to prevent cheating, teach students how to use AI ethically, and address misconduct fairly. Whether you're frustrated, unsure, or just curious, this session offers concrete tools and real case examples to help you navigate this new landscape with confidence and clarity.

About the speaker:
Alym Amlani is an educator and author specializing in accounting and information systems. His forthcoming books include "Information Systems for Accounting Students" (Kendall Hunt) and "International Business Growth Strategies for Emerging Markets" (Routledge). A two-time "Best of the Teaching Professor Conference" honoree (2020, 2024) for his innovative approaches to exam design and educational technology, Alym brings practical solutions to today's teaching challenges. Drawing on his unique background as a professional magician, he makes complex concepts engaging and accessible across disciplines. His research on the Science of Magic informs his creative approach to problem-solving in education, particularly around emerging technologies and academic integrity.
