Description:
On September 24th at 12 noon on Surrey campus, join the librarians from the Kwantlen Seed Library for a seed saving talk and demonstration, followed by ample time for hands-on seed cleaning and swapping!
Bring your questions, seed-bearing plant materials*, and/or seeds to trade or donate (don't worry if you didn't grow them yourself - this is a great way to get rid of leftover/partial commercial seed packets you don't plan to use)!
Weather permitting, we will be outdoors on the west side of the Surrey campus library (Arbutus building) next to the Westerman campus garden. If it's raining, we'll move inside the Library.
During this hour-long event, we will:
- discuss what to think about when planning to save seeds from your garden
- demonstrate seed harvesting and cleaning techniques
- share knowledge, materials, and hands-on opportunities to process common vegetable and flower seeds (ours, or your own!)
* 'Seed-bearing plant materials' would include, for example, the seedheads from flowers or the seed-bearing parts of fruits and vegetables. If you're not sure how you get the seeds out of a particular plant, Seeds of Diversity has many resources to get you started.
