Official Contest Rules and Regulations

Participation in the 2021 KPU Melville School of Business Virtual Hackathon “KPUHacks” (the "Contest") constitutes the entrant's full and unconditional agreement with and acceptance of these Official Contest Rules and Regulations (“Official Rules”) and all decisions of Kwantlen Polytechnic University (“KPU” or the “Sponsor”) and its agents, which are final on all matters relating to the Contest.


1. ELIGIBILITY
Entrants must be enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary program. Faculty and staff of KPU are not eligible. All provincial, municipal and federal laws and regulations apply.

 

Participants can work as an individual (team of one) or in teams of two or three. Each Participant on a Team must be registered to participate in the Contest and meet the eligibility requirements. Teams must be finalized by 9:00am Pacific Standard Time (“PST”) on March 25, 2021. Once Teams are finalized, a Participant may only be on one Team and may not switch Teams. KPU is not responsible for, and will not assist in resolving, any disputes between Participants relating to participation on Teams or contribution to Entries. If a Participant does not comply with rules regarding Teams, the Participant, Participant’s Team(s) and/or the Participant’s Entry may be disqualified from the Contest.

 

The Contest will be held remotely through a hosted VPN service. All participants will be required to provide their own computer and internet connection to participate in the event. Being a virtual event, a stable internet connection is a requirement.


2. HOW TO ENTER
To enter, entrants must register for the Contest before the registration deadline of March 23, 2021 at 11:59pm PST. On the day of the Contest, Saturday, March 27, 2021, entrants must check in as a team to sign into the Contest, at the beginning of the Contest Period (as defined below) to receive one (1) entry into the Contest (each an “Entry”). Maximum one (1) Entry per team.


Your Entry must not defame or invade the rights of any person, living or deceased or otherwise infringe upon any third party personal or proprietary rights, including any trademark or copyrights. By entering the Contest, you are representing and warranting to KPU that your Entry does not defame or invade the rights of any person, living or deceased or otherwise infringe upon any third party personal or proprietary rights, including any trademark or copyrights.


No purchase is necessary in connection with the Contest.


3. WINNER SELECTION

The winning team will be decided immediately upon conclusion of the event at 4:00pm PST on Saturday, March 27, 2021. The top 3 teams with the greatest number of points will be declared the winners. In the event of a tie, the first team to achieve the winning number of points will be declared first, followed by second, and third.

 


4. PRIZE CLAIM CONDITIONS
The teams named on the Entries drawn pursuant to the Contest Draw (each a “selected entrant”) will be notified by public announcement on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 4:30pm PST.


In order to claim his/her Prize the selected entrant must present his or herself, with valid photo identification at the online Closing Ceremony before Saturday, 4:35pm PST on March 27, 2021. Before being declared a “Winner” and being awarded the Prize, the Winner must first correctly answer without assistance of any kind, whether mechanical or otherwise, a time-limited mathematical skill-testing question to be administered at the time the selected individual presents his/herself.

 

The Winners will also be required to complete a written declaration and prize release form, releasing the Sponsor and all of their respective directors, officers, owners, partners, shareholders, employees, agents, representatives, successors and assigns from any liability in connection with the Contest or the use or misuse or possession of any Prize. Return of winner notification as undeliverable, inability to reach the selected entrant, failure to claim a Prize within the required time period, failure to provide proof of eligibility, release documents, or other required documentation (if requested) in a timely manner, failure to correctly answer the skill-testing question, or other non-compliance with these Official Rules may result in disqualification, forfeiture of the Prize and, at Sponsor’s sole discretion, selection of an alternate selected entrant for the forfeited Prize, who will be subject to disqualification in the same manner.
 

5. DEADLINES
Contest begins on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 9:30am PST and ends on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 4:00pm PST (the “Contest Period”).


6. PRIZING
There are (3) prizes to be awarded in connection with the Contest. Subject to the Prize Claim Conditions outlined above, the selected entrant(s) will be awarded one of the following prizes (each, a “Prize”):
1 x $300 gift card

1 x $225 gift card

1 x $75 gift card
 

Each Prize is non-transferable.


Prizes must be accepted as awarded. No cash substitutions.

7. PERSONAL INFORMATION
KPU and its authorized agents will collect, use and disclose the personal information you provide when you enter the Contest for the purposes of administering the Contest and Prize fulfillment. Such personal information is collected under the authority of and will be protected, used and disclosed in compliance with British Columbia’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.


By entering the Contest and accepting a Prize pursuant to the Prize Claim Conditions above, the Winners authorize Kwantlen Polytechnic University and its advertising and promotional agencies and their respective employees or other representatives, to broadcast, publish and otherwise use the Winners’ name, photograph, image, statements regarding the Contest and/or the Prizes, and (or) voice for publicity purposes relating to the Contest, without any form of remuneration, approval or further notice.


8. RELEASE
By entering this Contest, you agree to indemnify, release and hold harmless, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, its employees and its agents from and against any losses, damages, rights, claim or cause of action of any kind arising, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, out of your breach of the Official Rules, the use of your Entry in the manner set forth in these Official Rules, use of the Prize or otherwise resulting from your participating in the Contest.


9. MISCELLANEOUS
Kwantlen Polytechnic University reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel or modify the Contest if fraud, technical failures, or anyone’s actions destroys the integrity of the Contest, or if factors beyond the Sponsor’s control make it impossible for the Sponsor to administer this Contest as planned.

 

Entrants who have not complied with these Official Rules are subject to disqualification. The Prizes are not transferable and must be accepted as awarded with no substitutions in cash or otherwise, except at Sponsor’s sole discretion. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute an alternate prize of equivalent or greater value if a Prize cannot be awarded as described. The Prizes will only awarded pursuant to the Prize Claim Conditions outlined above.

 

By entering this Contest, you agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor. All decisions of the Sponsor and/or Committee are final and binding in all matters relating to this Contest.
