Kwantlen's emergency planner first Canadian to be elected to Certified Emergency Manager Commission of IAEM

(METRO VANCOUVER, B.C.) Guy Corriveau, a Langley resident and the manager of emergency planning at Kwantlen Polytechnic University was elected vice-chair of the Certified Emergency Manager (CEM®) Commission of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM).

A CEM® commissioner since 2005, Corriveau is the first Canadian elected as vice-chair, a position elected by the association's peers and reserved for highly regarded CEM® commissioners with expert knowledge and expertise. Corriveau will commence his term in January of 2011 and provide leadership in guiding the commission as the peer-review body evaluates applications for emergency management certification and maintains organizational policies and regulations.

As a CEM®, Corriveau brings with him more than 25 years of emergency management experience to his role at Kwantlen as the manager of emergency planning. His duties include conducting emergency response exercises, developing and delivering training sessions in emergency preparedness, and ensuring that all Kwantlen campuses are prepared for any emergencies or disasters.

Revealing his goal for the university, Corriveau says, "My aim is to help Kwantlen enhance its high state of campus readiness to effectively respond to and quickly recover from credible and probable disasters and emergencies by establishing the Office of Emergency Planning, which will administer Kwantlen's READYCAMPUS™ program along with other emergency planning initiatives."
