Program Information, Eligibility & Timelines

Spring Cohort 

Internship start / end dates: January 19, 2026 - July 17, 2026.

NOTE: The end date is flexible to accommodate various weekly schedules, however, the total amount of hours stay at 460.

  • October 3, 2025: Deadline to submit applications for both employers & students is 9:00 AM (PST);
  • September 8 - October 8, 2025: Students will be vetted on an ongoing basis and will receive advice, feedback, and support from our Student Success Coaches;
  • October 9 - 15, 2025: Eligible students will be connected to available internship opportunities and prepare for interviews;
  • October 16 - November 7, 2025: Industry Partners/ Employers will call shortlisted students and conduct interviews;
  • November 10, 2025: Industry Partner/ Employer deadline to submit the names of the successful candidates by emailing melvilleindustry@kpu.ca and copying the successful student; upon acceptance, both the intern and the industry partner will sign an agreement;
  • November 17, 2025: KPU Melville to submit the funding proposals;
  • December 8 - 23, 2025: A 1-hour training session on "Internship Workplace Ethics & Communication" for interns, in collaboration with their respective Student Success Coaches;
  • January 19, 2026: MBSI program anticipated start date.

Summer Cohort

Internship start / end dates: May 25, 2026 - November 27, 2026.

  • February 18 - February 20, 2026: Eligible students will be connected to available internship opportunities and prepare for interviews;
  • February 23 - March 11, 2026: Industry Partners/ Employers will call shortlisted students and conduct interviews;

Fall Cohort

  • May 20 - June 10, 2026: Students will be vetted on an ongoing basis and will receive advice, feedback, and support from our Student Success Coaches;
  • June 11 - 12, 2026: Eligible students will be connected to available internship opportunities and prepare for interviews;
  • June 15 - July 3, 2026: Industry Partners/ Employers will call shortlisted students and conduct interviews;
  • July 6, 2026: Industry Partner/ Employer deadline to submit the names of the successful candidates by emailing melvilleindustry@kpu.ca and copying the successful student; upon acceptance, both the intern and the industry partner will sign an agreement;
  • July 20, 2026: KPU Melville to submit the funding proposals;
  • August 12 - 28, 2026: A 1-hour training session on "Internship Workplace Ethics & Communication" for interns, in collaboration with their respective Student Success Coaches;
  • September 14, 2026: MBSI program anticipated start date.

Eligibility

  • Domestic and International Melville School of Business students, eligible to work part-time in Canada, who are still enrolled at KPU on the end date of the internship. The work schedule is determined through a mutual agreement between the industry partner and the intern. Please note that students are initially vetted with the expectation that they will work part-time. However, a full-time schedule may be offered at the discretion of the industry partner, typically confirmed later during the interview process or just prior to the start of the internship provided that the student is selected as an intern;
  • Graduate and Post-Baccalaureate Students: Must be enrolled at Melville School of Business in a Graduate Diploma, or a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma (program declaration is not required);
  • Bachelor's and Business Diploma Students: Must be enrolled and declared at Melville School of Business in a Bachelor's Degree, or any of the following Business Diplomas - Accounting, Business Administration, Business Management, Computer Information Systems, Marketing Management and Public Relations;
  • Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher (exceptions can be made by a SSC who has met with the student and has evaluated the student’s skills and knowledge);
  • Not be actively enrolled or participating in a Coop Program;
  • Be available to reside in Canada for the entire duration of the internship (for ex., Spring 2023: January 2023 till mid-July 2023); and
  • Reside in Canada at the time of application (local address and phone number are required).

Internship Structure

  • Flexible time (20 - 35 hours per week); maximum 6 months and minimum 4 months, up to 460 hours;
  • Beginning in May, September, and January;
  • Flexible time-frames; choose the days and hours that work best for you;
  • Possibility of extension for certain types of projects.

Note: Employers have the flexibility to hire multiple interns per term. This may involve collaborative work on larger projects or individual assignments in different departments. However, it is essential that each intern's specific outcomes and deliverables are clearly outlined in the project description.
