Nursing
The purpose of our nursing programs is to educate students to work with individuals, families, groups and communities from a health promotion perspective within the ethic of caring science to become holistic and skilled nurses.
The programs assist students to develop sensitivity to people's experiences with health and healing. Students will learn to work as partners with clients, other health care providers and community resources. Through active learning and participation in today’s dynamic health care system, graduates are prepared to lead and collaborate toward equitable, individualized and contextualized health for all.
Our nursing programs are governed and accredited by The British Columbia College of Nurses and Nurse Midwives (BCCNM) which is the regulatory body for registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses in this province. In order to practice nursing upon graduation, students must meet the English requirements and Requisite Skills and Abilities for practicing nurses. To learn more visit www.bccnm.ca.
Why Pursue Psychiatric Nursing at KPU?
The Bachelor of Psychiatric (BPN) program is a full-time cohort program. Psychiatric nursing students will learn psychiatric nursing theory, mental health promotion and wellness. Program courses are offered in a hybrid or online format. Learning is supported by practice experiences in institutional and community settings. Upon graduation, students will be eligible to apply for registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and to write the Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Canada Examination (RPNCE).
The Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing program is guided by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). To work as a registered psychiatric nurse, graduates must meet the required competencies and standards set by the BCCNM. More information can be found at the following links:

The program will assist students to develop sensitivity to people's experiences with health and healing across the lifespan in a variety of settings. Students will learn to work as partners with clients and with other health care providers. Through their understanding of and participation in the changing health care system, graduates will be active participants in creating health for all.
Graduates will be eligible to apply to write national examinations to obtain registration to practice as registered nurses in British Columbia.
The curriculum of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is based on the concepts of caring and health promotion and has been developed in consultation with nursing practitioners, theorists, professional associations, and various government ministries. The program includes non-nursing courses that complement nursing theory and practice. The curriculum considers the changing health care needs of our society.
