Are you passionate about the great outdoors? Vancouver Golf Club is seeking a HORTICULTURAL ASSISTANT to join our Grounds team!
Overview:
• Department: Grounds Department
• Employment Type: Seasonal (April – October 15); could run longer depending on weather conditions
• Location: Vancouver Golf Club – 771 Austin Avenue, Coquitlam, BC (on site)
• Shift Schedule: A combination of weekend & weekday shifts, starting at 5:00 AM (or earlier).
• Compensation: starting wage $21.87 per hour
• Reports To: Superintendent
• Please note this is unionized position, and as part of the condition of employment is to be an active member of the SEIU Local 2 Successful candidates will receive enrollment paperwork during the onboarding process.
What You’ll Do:
• Weeding, raking, trimming and edging of garden beds.
• Operation of gas-powered tools such as blowers, string trimmers, hedge trimmers and mowers.
• Pruning of trees and shrubs.
• Planting/ deadheading /maintaining/fertilizing summer annuals and baskets.
• Mulching garden beds.
• Other duties, as assigned

• Are early risers – Shifts can begin 5:00 AM or earlier.
• Enjoy working outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Are physically fit – Must be able to walk and stand for long periods.
• Are team players with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
• Have a willingness to learn – No prior experience necessary; training is provided!
• Reliable transportation (our location is not transit friendly).

Required Qualifications
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
• Minimum 2 years of landscape or horticulture work experience
• Valid BC pesticide applicators license would be an asset.
• Proven leadership and communication skills.
• Turf Management or Horticultural Diploma or certificate considered an asset
• Schedule Availability with reliable transportation to attend all scheduled shifts
• Clean criminal history
