We are seeking an experienced Turf and Litter Maintenance Chargehand to join our dedicated and skilled team in the Parks Operations Division.

Position Overview

  • Plans, supervises and participates in the work of a team of Parks Workers
  • Performs work related to turf management, sportsfield programs, and streetscape, parks and trail litter collection
  • Implements a year-round turf management program specific to sports fields and turf
  • Sources and purchases turf management products, seasonal light displays and irrigation materials
  • Oversees irrigation systems including inspections, repairs, audits, and seasonal maintenance
  • Performs other duties as required

Compensation and Hours

  • Rate of Pay: $40.38 per hour (2024 CUPE rates)
  • Hours of Work: 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Qualifications

  • Considerable knowledge of irrigation systems and controls
  • Knowledge of turf and grass maintenance
  • Knowledge of methods and equipment used in litter collection related to Parks
  • Prior turf and/or irrigation experience within a municipal setting is desirable
  • Completion of a turf management diploma, Irrigation CIT Level 2, BCWWA Cross Connection, Bucket Truck and Level B Backhoe Certifications, plus considerable related experience including supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training or experience is desirable
  • Irrigation CIT Level 1 and a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License are required (candidates will be considered without their CIT Level 1, provided they are willing to obtain during their first six months of employment)
