Jaria R., Technical Apparel Design
Receiving the Student Research and Innovation Grant (SRIG) was an empowering experience that brought my capstone project to life in meaningful ways. The funding enabled me to explore advanced materials, conduct user testing with Goalball athletes, and refine a protective base layer designed specifically for their needs. The program encouraged real-world engagement and allowed me to apply classroom knowledge to a community-centered design challenge. Beyond financial support, SRIG gave me the structure and motivation to conduct deeper research, collaborate with my advisor, and understand the broader impact of inclusive design. The experience taught me how to navigate the responsibilities of independent research—from ethics and documentation to final reporting. I’m proud to have contributed to a project that can support safety and performance for athletes with visual impairments. SRIG not only supported my academic growth but also strengthened my confidence as a designer committed to equity and innovation in technical apparel.
