The SRIG program was an amazing experience of understanding and practicing research beyond the classroom, from focus group data collection to data analysis, conference presentation, and manuscript drafting. It was thanks to SRIG that I could start working with GASKET, allowing me to continue with them even after the end of the program. Our project of exploring 2SLGBTQIA+ students' experiences is one I'm truly passionate about, and that I wanted to be part of even before applying for the grant. The flexibility to extend the contract as long as I hadn't used all the funding and was still a KPU student was very important to me — as a neurodivergent international student, I have to work multiple jobs while maintaining my full time status as student, despite my struggles to conciliate so many responsibilities at all times. I wasn't able to finish my data analysis within the stipulated time, so being able to extend the grant was a key part of my learning. The SRIG allowed me practical research experience working with a diverse team with more members than classroom projects and allowed me to pursue research that is meaningful not only for my career plans of becoming an educator, but also my personal and material experiences as a trans gay man.
