International Baccalaureate Program

International Baccalaureate students are eligible for admission on the basis of successful completion of the IB Diploma and/or secondary school graduation. To be considered for admission applicants are required to meet KPU’s admission requirements.

IB Diploma Students: IB diploma students may qualify for early conditional admission to most programs.  Transfer credits will be granted for completed higher level courses with an examination grade of 5 or higher as outlined in the IB equivalency chart below.

IB Certificate Students: IB Certificate students may still be eligible for admission and an evaluation of secondary school and IB transcripts will be completed to determine admission.   Transfer credit may be assessed course by course for individual IB courses completed with an examination grade of 5 or higher as outlined in the IB equivalency chart below.

For applicants who complete both the International Baccalaureate diploma and senior matriculation/secondary school graduation, admission will be based on the credential which is to the advantage of the student.

Submitting Transcripts

Students currently completing the IB Diploma program

Students currently completing the IB program will need to arrange to have IB Predicted Grades sent from their high school to KPU as admissions decisions are determined early in the year.  Based on the predicted grades reported by your IB Coordinator, KPU may provide a conditional offer of admission.  We will still require official final IB results to be sent to us prior to the start of classes.  Please work with your IB Coordinator to make the necessary arrangements.

Students completing both High school Curriculum and IB diploma program

Students will need to arrange to have official high school transcripts and official IB results sent to KPU.  Upon receipt of official IB results, transfer credit may be awarded.

IB Diploma Graduates

IB diploma graduates will need to arrange to have complete, official transcripts sent to Kwantlen Polytechnic University directly from IB.  Upon receipt of your official transcripts, the Admissions Department will contact you with further details about your application. For more information about ordering transcripts, please contact your IB regional office or check the IB website at: www.ibo.org/iba.  Students should also arrange for official senior secondary transcripts to be sent directly to KPU.

International Baccalaureate Grade Conversion

We will convert your IB exam scores into percentages for purposes of admission and transfer credit.
If you are completing an IB course and the related high school course, we will use the higher of the two grades for admission.

Transfer Credit

Students who have completed International Baccalaureate subjects will receive advanced standing in accordance with the table of course equivalencies which has been established in consultation with faculty.  The table of equivalencies is reviewed and updated by the appropriate Departmental and Divisional Curriculum committees annually.

To apply to receive credit at KPU as a result of completing International Baccalaureate courses, students are required to submit an official transcript from the International Baccalaureate Organization sent directly to KPU.
