Research Interests

My research interests focus primarily on topics within the fields of natural resource management and environmental sustainability. For the past 20 years, I have been investigating the impacts of globalization and trade liberalization policies on the Indian economy and society. In the past, I had the opportunity to work on a research project funded by the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute to examine the impacts of coastal aquaculture on the local communities along the East Coast of India. At present, I am working on a research project investigating the impact of sea-level rise and livelihood adaptation strategies along the East Coast of India. Another research project that currently I am involved in is examining the socio-economic impacts of cyclones and the coping strategies of the local communities in Odisha, India with a special focus on women. This is a collaborative research project between the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani in India and the Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Funding for this project has been received from the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute. In addition, I have worked for the Environmental Assessment Program for the Asia-Pacific region of the United Nations Environment Program (EAP-AP/UNEP) in Thailand between 1995-1999.
