Canadian Nursing Theory and Practice - For RNs PNUR 9112*(online)

This course was formerly known as PNUR 1112 and has now changed to PNUR 9112

 

All summer 2021 classes will be delivered remotely. In order to meet the requirements of remote delivery, students registering in summer 2021 term courses will need to have an electronic device, and access to the internet via WIFI or other source, to complete courses and access KPU services.  Please note: cellphones are not an option for video-conferencing, ipad/tablet or laptop with video capabilities required.

 

Course Description

This course is for Registered Nurses (RNs).  Formerly known as PNUR 1112-Medical – Surgical Review course, this tutor lead, full online course provides the participant with an intensive review of the nursing knowledge required by Registered Nurses to work effectively in the Canadian health care system.  Participants will explore concepts such as pain and electrolyte balance and brush up their knowledge about diseases and conditions that occur in the various systems of the body such as the neurological, cardiovascular and endocrine systems.  If you are preparing for the national nursing exam this course will provide you with the fundamental nursing knowledge required to be successful on the exam. Activities include video clips, case scenarios, puzzles, learning modules and web browsing.  This course is self-paced and learners should be prepared to spend anywhere from 11-12 hours per week.

Please note:  Applicants intending to register for Consolidated Clinical (PNUR 9130) are required to show proof of English proficiency.  Please see the Consolidated Clinical website for full details.

Course Format

Course is hosted over one semester. Coursework is approximately one hundred and fifty (150) hours, not including exam time.  This intensive course requires learners to commit a minimum of eleven (11) to twelve (12) hours per week consistently (dependent upon individual learner needs). Note: Late registrants do not receive the full fourteen (14) weeks. It is recommended learners register prior to course beginning. Extensions are not available.

Course Cost

$500.00 CAD, plus GST    (Please note: All Faculty of Health, Professional Studies course fees are non-refundable/non-transferrable.)

Course Grade

Successful grade for this course is Mastery

Learners who are not successful in PNUR 9112, Canadian Nursing Theory and Practice - For RNs may attempt the course for a second time. Learners requesting a second attempt are required to seek permission from the Director, in writing. Learners are advised to contact their Canadian Nursing Regulatory Body for advisement if they are not successful after a second attempt. No exceptions. Please note, there is no appeal mechanism within KPU for students receiving non-mastery.

Entrance Requirements

To be eligible to register, applicants must have one of the following:

  • Completion of KPU Competency Assessment and Enhancement for Nurses’ (CAEN) assessment; OR
  • A letter or email referral from BCCNM; OR
  • Current nursing licensure

Registration closes 2 weeks after the semester begins to ensure learners have sufficient time to complete the course.
