Testimonials

  • "The students are well supervised, as their instructor is an experienced TCM doctor. They asked detail questions before making diagnosis, they answered my questions and explained to me the treatment plan before and during the needling session, which made me feel less nervous and more confidence on doing the acupuncture treatment." - Natalie

  • "One senior patient has had chronic lower back and leg pain, more than 2 and a half years. and she has a huge lump on the neck. she tried many acupuncture treatments before, which didn't completely stop the pain. She came to the KPU student clinic for a try, received 8 treatments in 1180 practicum, 4 treatments in 2180 practicum. to her surprise, the lower back and leg do not have pain anymore. the big lump on the neck looks much smaller than before. She had happily told us that the KPU student clinic unexpectedly solved her problems in such a short period. she appreciated all instructors and students. she wants to invite her friends to come to the KPU student clinic." - Jun

  • " As a patient, I think the KPU student clinic provided me with a very comprehensive and knowledgeable diagnosis. Almost all the questions were asked under the supervision of the professors and all the operations were standardized and complete. I visited two student clinics, one in Cambie and one in West Broadway. The students were professionally dressed and very kind, making me feel less intimidated. And the prospective acupuncturists who administered my needles were so skilled that I believe they must have treated many patients before diagnosing me.

If I were to make some suggestions, I was thinking that it would be best if KPU Richmond Campus Clinic could be open to the public because many patients have more trust in hospitals affiliated with public university titles, which is, of course, the habit of many immigrants coming from mainland China. At the same time, the school's clinic has more space and can do more moxibustion and fire cupping treatments. Patients would be more able to feel the degree of professionalism of KPU's TCM students. Of course, this suggestion was also confirmed in my conversation with Dr. Chan.

Overall, the KPU student clinic gave me a very high level of professionalism. I have also recommended the school's clinic to my friends and relatives at the same time." - Virginia

Frequently Asked Questions

I've never done acupuncture before. What should I expect in my first visit?

Acupuncture treatment is delivered by inserting hair-thin needles into specific acupuncture points. Some people may feel slight pain or tingling. In extreme cases, it may end up bruising locally.

How should I dress for my appointment?

Casual and loose clothes are best.

Do you offer other traditional Chinese medicine services?

No, not at the teaching clinic at this stage.

Are acupuncture sessions covered under my health benefits?

This will differ depending on your extended health benefits provider. You will receive a copy of your appointment receipt via email after paying that you can submit to your provider for potential reimbursement.
