John Mitchell Legacy Endowed Scholarship ($1,000; open to 2nd year domestic students)
In 1982, Alexander John Mitchell started an economic and cultural revolution when he pioneered Canada's first craft brewery in Horseshoe Bay, BC. Two years later, John Mitchell changed the brewing industry forever when he opened Spinnakers, the first brew pub and hotel combination in North America. Throughout his career, John Mitchell influenced a generation of new brewers and entrepreneurs. The John Mitchell Legacy Endowed Scholarship will ensure the next generation of craft beer professionals have the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the industry that John Mitchell launched over 40 years ago. Criteria: awarded to a student entering their second year in the Brewing and Brewery Operations program; in financial need.
Molson Coors BIPOC Award ($2,500; open to 1st and 2nd year students)
As North America's oldest brewery and Canada's second oldest company, Molson Coors has been delighting beer and beverage drinkers for 235 years. We believe that the future of brewing is bright at the hands of KPU graduates. We also believe that systemic barriers have no place in creating great beverages and that brewing professionals should be as diverse as the people who enjoy their creations. This award encourages students who identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or Person Colour (BIPOC) in their early path to making their mark in brewing. The award recipient may be contacted by Molson Coors. Criteria: Exclusively for students who identify as BIPOC; open to Brewing students in first year and second year Brewing students with a CGPA of 3.00 or greater.
Nancy More Award ($1,500; open to 2nd year students)
Nancy More is an icon in the BC craft beer community, as well as being an internationally-respected brewer having worked in breweries in Canada and globally. Her depth of experience, passion for education, and advocacy for gender-equity in the workplace make her a role model and positive force in the brewing world. The BC Craft Brewers Guild and BC Hospitality Foundation are pleased to support Nancy’s legacy with an annual scholarship awarded to a student who self-identifies as a woman or is a member of an under-represented community. This award will be given to a student who emulates the same passion, commitment and leadership that Nancy More has defined her career by. Criteria: For students who self-identify as a woman or who are a member of an underrepresented community with demonstrated leadership ability and are engaged in and contributing to the craft beer industry (reference letters/supporting document preferred or include examples in the 'additional information' box below); open to Brewing students entering their second year with a CGPA of 3.00 or greater.
