Accomplished striker commits to Kwantlen Eagles for 2009

(SURREY, B.C.) Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Department of Athletics and Recreation announces that Shanay Sangha (Richmond) has committed to the Kwantlen Eagles women's soccer program for the 2009-2010 season.

“Shanay is one of the top forwards in the current U-18 Metro League,” said Eagles head coach Vladimir Samozvanov. “She’s the type of impact player that we have been looking for and I expect her to contribute right away.”

Sangha joins the Eagles with a trail of accomplishments under her belt. Sangha, an accomplished striker, was the top goal scorer for her U–17 Metro team from 2007 to 2009. Currently a member of the U–18 Vancouver United team, Sangha was also a two-time member of Team India and participated in the Nation’s Cup tournament with the team. She was twice named the most valuable player of the Indo-Canadian soccer tournament.

Sangha also excels in the classroom, earning academic honours for five consecutive years while at Matthew McNair High School.

“I am excited and thrilled to be playing for a new soccer team,” commented Sangha. “It's an exciting opportunity because I enjoy meeting new people and this will be a great way to start. It’s great that Kwantlen is a university now. It allows me to continue playing soccer while earning my degree in human resources management.”

Kwantlen’s varsity athletics teams are the Kwantlen Eagles. In basketball, soccer, badminton and golf, they compete in international intercollegiate leagues. For more information on the Kwantlen Eagles, visit kwantlen.ca/eagles
