Kwantlen Polytechnic University's Athletics Department is pleased to announce that Stefon Wilson (Detroit, MI) has been named the new head coach of the varsity men's basketball program.

"We are excited to have Stefon join the Eagles family," said Elise Le Brun, director of athletics and recreation. "Our committee had a very difficult decision because there were a number of great candidates, but Stefon emerged as the clear choice. It's an exciting time for men's basketball at Kwantlen, and the combination of Stefon's playing and coaching experience is a great fit for our department."

Wilson graduated from Algoma University where he played three seasons with the Thunderbirds. In his time there he earned the 2004-05 Rookie of the Year and was named team captain for the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons. Throughout his university career, Wilson volunteered at a number of summer basketball camps and also acted as the assistant coach at Sir James Dunn High School for the 2007-08 season.

"I'm so excited and thankful for this wonderful opportunity," said Wilson. "I am truly looking forward to being part of an organization that thrives on scholarship, community, mentorship and stewardship. I value winning in every aspect of life and I plan on instilling those same values in my team both on and off the court."

Most recently, Wilson spent the 2010-2011 season as the second assistant coach at Simon Fraser University, in their first year competing in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (NCAA Division II), and is currently pursuing his Masters in Sport Administration with a major in Coaching Theory and Strategy.

"I plan to leverage the existing talent that we have and build upon that to produce a first class winning collegiate basketball team," commented Wilson. "I will display my great leadership skills in this university and fully communicate education as a priority. I look forward to a successful career that includes many wins both on and off the court. I truly thank the university's leadership for this opportunity."
